Not all sequels are the best.. Look at Transformers or the Fast and Furious franchise: they all seem to get a little excessive. But John Wick: Chapter Two is one of the best sequels I’ve seen in awhile. One thing I did enjoy was that they just started basically right where the last one left off, thus there was no need to explain the story. The plots simply merged seamlessly.
Now I will say that the actual acting in this movie was not the best--as, well, Keanu Reeves is the star, and elocution is not his forte. He either sounds like a stereotypical surfer dude or is “extremely serious.”
He was extremely serious.
While he was supposed to be a tortured soul, actually emitting emotion eluded him. However, his lack of skills didn’t ruin the movie.
The choreography in this movie was the best part. I’m not the biggest fan of action movies, because when a guy is thrown out some window four floors up and survives, it’s just a big turn-off. In John Wick though, it’s mostly realistic scenes and a lot of them were all one-take scenes, so he had to do them over and over until he got he fight/scene right.
Thus, while Reeves has trouble speaking, he redeems himself with his fight scenes. According to Business Insider, Reeves learned martial arts and firearms training for both the John Wick movies.
Surprisingly, this movie was a better-than-average sequel. The acting was sub-par, but that was to be expected. However, the dedication to the fight scenes more than made up for it. 7.5/10.
