Junior Joyce Liu took second place last month at the Montana Tech Regional Science and Engineering Fair in Butte. Adviser Kelly Nelson called it a “standout performance” by Liu.
Liu said, “I went last year as well, and it’s such an amazing experience. It’s amazing to look at all the other research that’s going on--it’s so advanced, it’s mind-blowing.”
This May, Liu will travel to Los Angeles to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair against 1700 students from 77 different countries. Liu also collected the 11th grade gold medal for her performance along with teammate Kincaid MacDonald.
Liu and MacDonald joined Mehana Benson, Eric Hardwick,and Jackson Serveen to take second place overall in the team competition for large groups.
Serveen received a special award from the MT Tech electrical engineering department.
