The girls’ golf team took home second place honors at the AA State Tournament last weekend in Billings. This is the best finish of the Sentinel girls’ team in the school’s history.
“The girls second place finish was a true team effort. We had one person earn all state with a 15th place finish, which shows the strength of the team. Very cool. I couldn’t be prouder of them. I will miss, and Spartan Golf will miss, Seniors Sara Michell, Sydnee Nowlen and Halle Nurse,” head coach Craig Matosich said.
The girls’ team, which also includes Lauren Peterson and Marissa Breum, tied Helena High School for second place.
On the boys’ side, Senior Sean Ramsbacher walked away with individual honors, nabbing a second place finish. The team, which consists of Ramsbacher, Jack Johnston, Blake Hasquet, Sam Miland and Shawn Ryan, took fourth overall.
Ramsbacher said, “State went really well for everyone involved. It was a great way to end the high school career.”
“State went really well for us as a team,” she said. “Our first day was good and we were in second place going into the second day. We were very excited and ready for day two to play.”
While day two didn’t go as well as the girls had hoped, they were still able to hold off the third place team and walk away with the tie for second.
“It was a great feeling and we were so happy with our results,” Michell said.
Previously in the season, Michell won the Missoula tournament and took second in Kalispell. Nowlen has also taken second multiple times.
On the boys’ side, senior Jack Johnston won the Missoula tournament and Sean Ramsbacher won the Fairmont tournament. Junior Blake Hasquet took second in Kalispell as well.
Coach Matosich believes that the team’s success depends on their hard work both in season and off season. All of the players are incredibly dedicated and have clearly reaped the rewards. Going forward, they feel that they need to stay focused and in the moment.
